Oprah visited Rihanna in her native Barbados earlier this month and came away with a whole new opinion of the pop star. She was expecting a hard-edged badass, but what she saw was a thoughtful, emotional, vulnerable woman, who also happens to be a good driver. They drove to her old house where she grew up and mingled with some of the neighbors. The down-to-earth singer took time to say hi to everyone and give them hugs.

“I’m super-duper afraid of the pedestal that comes with fame,” said Rihanna, adding, “It’s amazing how lonely you can feel.”

Their intimate conversation will air August 19 at 9 p.m. on “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”
