A hairdresser installing extensions in Nigeria
The multitudes of Black women that have been embracing their natural curls, doesn’t extend to African women it seems. A recent article in The Guardian points to the growing trend in Nigeria of wearing weaves and extensions. Long straight hair is a signifier of beauty, but also class and money, the article says. One girl interviewed told the paper rather bluntly, “No rich man will marry a girl with village [unstraightened] hair.” Read more here. [The Guardian via CIAAfrique]
